Just joined and have some questions

I just joined and I have some questions. First off, if you read this know that I have Xsplit, Hauppauge HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition, LiveSplit, and OBS classic. Even though it doesn't show up on my page I do have a twitch account, I just didn't think it would be worth it for the time being to put it up since I've never even used it. Questions:

  1. Do I need to stream my recordings on twitch or can I just record them and upload them to YouTube?
  2. Is there anything else I should get? I mean, besides what I have shown above and the game of course.
  3. What would be the reasons that a run I submit be rejected?
  4. How do I record my game and LiveSplit together using OBS?

Any advice on this would be very appreciated. If I have anymore questions I will be sure to ask them. Thanks and good luck to all those that speedrun videogames.

Québec
  1. both work
  2. console + games duh
  3. anything that goes against a leaderboard rules
  4. OBS: add both using windows capture for livesplit and video capture device for your game feed(using amarec live feature is good) and you can resize them after.

My suggestion for learning how to capture both the video and splits first is to go through the settings and what not of the stuff your using and read up on what it readily available from the OBS site for a quick start and then play around with settings till they make you happy or until you have an idea of what you want then ask more specifically what your aiming for. <3

Anyways Good luck with practicing games and running in general.

  1. Either works fine.
  2. working equipment for the job sometimes it varies.
  3. most common for rejection besides not being within the leaderboards rules would be bad or unclean video quality.
  4. Their is multiple was to capture sources for different reasons or for certain effects, so learning about what is best for the situation from experimenting first hand then learning is your best bet.
