So is this a speed boost? How much time does this save on each lap?

I don't know exactly how much time it saves... but it is sort of a speed boost. I'll do some testing real quick.

Okay it seems to bit faster if you are able to control it (I was able to be 3 seconds faster in a slow car than a faster car in time trial mode). That's because you are going faster than what the game wants you to be (199mph) and you need to be sliding at a wall during a loop. It does work on other walls like near the beginning of Submerged City (the straight down into the water section).
