Is it fair to verify my own speedruns?
Russia

I'm Monstrum speedrunner, and some time ago I was made a moder of this game as I'm the only active runner of this game on this site. Now I have an ability to verify my own speedruns instantly. Is it fair if I know that I followed all the neseccary rules of the speedrun and it's legit?

NB. There's another moder in this game (who made me a moder), but he told me he's gonna give up modering this game in some period of time to make me the only moder of Monstrum. For now I don't know whether he's active moder or not

I can do so, but another mod told a month ago he's gonna to retire from modering this game, so that's why he did me a moder - to replace himself in advance

If you're the only moderator of the game, it's really the only way to have your runs verified. If something's fishy about your run, then someone will eventually call you out on it.

Ozotuh, in fact there's another moder in this game, which granted me a moder status, but I'm not sure whether he's still active or not, as he told he's gonna retire from being Monstrum moder in a short period of time

Well, if he's gonna retire then that means you'll be the only mod for your game anyway. So you kinda don't have any other choice but to verify your own runs, because no one else is gonna do it :/

But to be honest, as long as you respect the rules of the leaderboards, it shouldn't be bad, i mean, if you respect the rules nothing should go wrong, right ? If on the other hand you don't respect the leaderboard rules, then someone will eventually call you out.

So yeah: As long as you follow your leaderboard's rules, nothing should go wrong.

What rules of leaderboards are we talking about? Rules of certain game's speedrun or some general site rules? Could you make yourself clear?

As a general rule of thumb, self-verification should be avoided if there are other moderators for the game. It's alright to self-verify if you're the only one with the ability for that game, but it should generally be avoided otherwise.

Okay, I'll try to contact the other moder to check if he's still able to verify speedruns. I did verify two own speedruns already and I stop doing so until I get a certain answer from him

Games need mod verification so runs get approved by trusted people. If you're a mod you should consider yourself trustful, so verifying your own run should be no problem at all, since you're also responsible for verifying other people's runs.

^ I would define it less as a matter of trust and more a matter of double-checking. Most of the stuff I do as a mod does not generally entail rejecting fraudulent runs or enforcing rules, but fixing people's fuckups when submitting, wrong platform, wrong time, some detail of submission. That sort of thing.

It's easy to make that sort of mistake yourself and have it go through live if you self-verify and you don't get a second pair of eyeballs to check it. That's the actual good reason to not want to self-verify, not because of mutual suspicion, but because everyone makes slight errors.
