Single vs multi segment runs

I'm unable to find specific information on if multiple segment runs are accepted anywhere. Is this a per game basis? I'm interested in Final Fantasy Tactics, but it's a pretty long game. I checked one of the speedruns and it was a single segment RTA, but is that required for all runs? Not really because of multiple segment optimization or anything, but I unfortunately just don't have the time to do everything in one sitting, but I suppose maybe that's just the spirit of the competition.

If it's per game, I've tried asking in the FFT specific forum, but I don't think it's very active. There's a single moderator and they posted a topic looking for a replacement supermod.

Maybe if it is per game, then each chapter as a single segment could be accepted? I dunno, I'm new to this site.

Thanks for any clarification that can be provided here.

I see you asked your question in the series forum, I'm not 100% positive but I don't think there are notifications for series forum posts, you'd wanna ask that in the game forum itself or message one of the game specific mods about it, generally segmented runs are a per game thing it's not something that is for every game, depends on what the mod(s) set/want/if it is asked of them to add a segmented category

Really depends on the game, some games have a segmented category and some dont,

I know some mods will add categories if you ask, so it doesnt hurt to ask

However most games (not all of them) require an RTA run. There are lot's of long games, 5h+ 10h+ 20h+ really a lot of them. However most of them need an RTA run, at least on this site. That's how I recall the situation. However don't mind doing segmented runs. They are nice to do aswell and also a nice way to show your skill. But for most games you'll need an RTA run to submit to the leaderboards. Still you can try and ask but don't be disappointed if the leaderboards want the run in one sitting.

Thank you for the replies everyone! I can already tell this is a very friendly community, compared to other places.

I'm new to the site and didn't realize that by clicking Final Fantasy Tactics in the forums, it meant the series. I've made a new post for that specific game. I'll probably end up doing the run for fun, anyway, but good to know that it's a per game basis and there could be separate categories.

Welcome to the site!

Since the game is broken into chapters, you could ask for there to be a section for ch1, ch2 etc. . . Mario Kart has leaderboards for each track and Smash Bros has them for each character so it can be done, just up to the mods whether there's enough interest to warrant it for your game.

I have to imagine there's a Discord server for FF speedrunning too.

Many games do have segmented categories, and also IL categories. And if your game doesn't have the category you want, and mods don't want to add it, there's nothing stopping you from doing runs anyway. I've done that with Binding of Isaac (greed mode).
