Etiquette of Submitting Runs

Hi all, I am new to speedrunning and just submitted my first (crappy) run for Resident Evil: Survivor.

I was wondering, is there a general rule of thumb as to when to and when not to submit a run. For example, the run I submitted puts me 3rd on the leaderboard. I would not waste the mods' time by submitting a run which had a time improvement but would not move me up the leaderboard.

Are there any other unwritten rules to not waste the mods' time or to speed up the whole process?

Thanks!

Submit every time you improve your time, even if your position stays the same on the leaderboard.

If your run is rejected without info, be polite and ask for a reason. Then you can submit it correctly the next time.

Be patient when you've submitted. Not all runs are verified within a day. If it last longer than a week, try to contact the game's mod. If it last longer than 3 weeks and you've heard nothing on contact request attempts, you can request to become moderator.

one thing that comes to mind would be to follow the leaderboard layout. as in if the leaderboard uses only igt, don't submit your run with real time, vice versa etc.

I just want to second Aureus and say if ok beat your time, and you were recording, absolutely submit it if you want to. People get genuinely excited for you when you PB. You could be 42nd on the leaderboard, announce that you just got 411st place, and people will cheer you on.

Some people only do submit times that move them up on the leaderboard, but that's just personal choice. Submit any runs you wish, any mod worth a damn would be happy their board is seeing activity.

If you have questions about submitting runs for your game, the best resource is to ¤ask the mods for that game¤ and they'll tell you.
