New to speedrunning, Introduction and questions.

Hey guys, im very new to speedrunning (have never intentionally run through a game fast other than pokemon and 1.5). I was happy to have achieved the trophy for 1.5 and finished with a time of somewhere between the 7-8 hour mark. Just happened to stumble across bizkits youtube channel which then opened my eyes to this world, needless to say im interested. Would love to start with 2.5 :)

So to start off with after reading through as many forums as I could I am left with a few questions.

Is there a pastebin or something similar thats got all of the new strats and menu's?

Is there a forum where all of the known glitches for 2.5 are listed? (Like the CoR + Data Org gold crown skip, also heard biz mention something of an oogie boogie glitch in his 4:06 WR lvl 1 run)

Im sure ill definately have more just those are the main ones for now :) Side note: I wont be recording or posting run times probably for a decently long time since as of right now, i have no internet (only 3gb of data on my phone) or computer and will more likely than not be doing segmented runs since i have a young daughter who takes up most of my time :) Thanks in advance

The only glitch that benefits you is CoR Skip, any other "glitch" is more than likely something that wouldn't save time and would probably just be a minor quirk that might lose time or something.

There is no pastebin that has updated strats or anything like that. The best way to learn the run/game is to watch runs and take notes. Runs will be your best source of strats and other info like that. Although some people have some menu notes posted here on the website under "Guides" so you might find some helpful notes there.

Otherwise, just watch and practice as it's the best way to get yourself learning and improving. Plus most people here will help if you have any specific questions (and you can always ask in the KH Discord as well)

Depending on what you want to run, somebody already probably has notes about it. I would still recommend to watch a run, just like Timmiluvs said, but if you want notes you could probably ask on the discord.

ive already watched a lot of runs, but having it in black and white makes it so much easier. but ill practice and then ill start remembering stuff :)

Youtube is a good resource for strat videos. Not many strats are put into words, but there are plenty of videos by a myriad of runners that showcase them pretty well.

There are a few tutorial videos for 1.5, but I'm not certain for 2.5. I'd check the guides section, as the others mentioned, but I'd also check the guides section of KH2 Final Mix, since that's the more popular version of the game and some of the resources may live there.

There's also a lot of value to be stated in making your own notes while watching the record video. That way, they're tailored to you and writing (typing) things down helps you remember them a bit better. Most people use Pastebin or Google Docs for this, although you could also try using a text document and a program called SplitNotes if you want to only show some of your notes at a time (on a per-segment basis).

youtube is great source. currently without internet i have to download videos while connected to wifi, currently have bizkits 4:06 lvl 1 crit wr downloaded and watched it twice :) Ive also got all of Bl00dys strat videos for 2fm, im in the process of downloading bizkits rpg 2016 wr breaking run. but do strats change much from lvl 1 any% as opposed to any% crit?

Antarctica

Im by no means a KH2 expert so take what I say with a grain of salt, but yeah, the strats do differ between 2FM Level 1 and 2FM Crit Any%. The strats are even more different between Crit and Beginner.

I think LiquidWifi did a tutorial video for the entire Crit run and TehRizzle might have done one for Beginner. Check out their Youtube's and Twitchs and see what you can find.

Also should be noted that some strats differ from 2.5 and FM.

I'd also highly recommend learning Beginner before moving to Critical or Level 1. Starting with Beginner can help give you a much deeper understanding of the intricacies of fights before moving to a category where not knowing those intricacies will get you killed. At this point, you may also want to open a thread on the KH2FMHD forum, because I'm sure a lot of people who could give you more specific help follow that game and will get alerts. Unfortunately, a lot of people miss series-wide forum posts because there's no way to get email alerts from them.

unfortunately, due to the person I am and the time restraints I have, ill throw myself in the deepend and learn quickly. Ive done a few lvl 1 playthroughs but that was before discorvering any form of strats, not using limits and using minimal amounts of magic. So I should be alright after a few runs :)

also why do so many people run 1.5?

Antarctica

It has a low entry point.

Most people have the game, it's a fast speedrun, it's easy to learn and not very difficult on beginner. It's commonly considered to be the easiest KH Speedrun to do (optimizing it to the level of BB or Saiyanz is hard though). It's just a good speedrun to do when just starting out with KH speedruns and given it's short length (roughly an hour shorter than KH2 runs on average), it appeals to a lot of people.

More people would probably run 2.5 too if English weren't an hour slower than the original KH2FM on PS2. Luckily, 1.5 made KH1FM significantly faster due to cutscene skips.
