Yeah it's fine, it's pretty much the standard speedrunning layout.

ok, never made one before so just making sure.

Simple is always best. 4:3 games are fairly easy, just use the additional space to the left for all your splits and stuff. 16:9 either transparent splits or try to have your layout take as little space as possible from the game.
