Speedrun rule question

Hi there, I was watching some link to the past speedruns, as this is the game I want to run soon, and the rules clearly state no save and quits and no left/right, up/down to move faster, yet some of the top runs clearly show both of those things happening. Whats up with that? Also, what constitutes a major and a minor glitch? No major glitches are allowed, which i assume is stuff like going through walls and such, but people use the sword to run faster. Just looking for clarification before running.

Ask the community for the game. http://www.speedrun.com/alttp/forum

For ALTTP save and quit is only allowed in Master Sword RTAs and glitched categories. Usually No Major Glitches don't allow it for historical reasons.

As for what constitutes a Major Glitch, it's easier to define the "non-major" ones which are spin speed, fake flippers and item dashing. Those are considered "non-major" because they don't allow you to seriously sequence break the game, they only allow for movement and routing optimization. For what it's worth, those glitches are also JP 1.0 only.

Finally, for the left+right and up+down, it's banned to press the both directions at the same time when using emu because pressing both opposite directions simultaneously allows for weird things and large glitches to happen. It's also not possible on real hardware without controller modding so it's banned. You're allowed to rapidly alternate presses of the directions Andy it can be used in some cases to move a few frames faster.

And yeah, all questions like this are better suited for the game forum, just figured I'd help a bit here since I'm familiar with the game.

Alright, thanks for the answers! Is there a way to move this threat or do I just need to delete it and repost on the games forum

There's no way to move this thread and there's no reason to delete here either.

Just repost any questions you have in the ALTTP forum. They have a thread there specifically for questions for new runners.
