Do you have to directly record a timer and the game or no?

I was wondering since BO3 has a timer on custom games (because i want to do the 30 kills challenges) am i able to do that?

Depends on the game because some games maybe allow it and others may not (for varying reasons).

Ask in the forums for that game and they can give you an accurate answer.

Also, I'm not sure that you realize that you're asking two different questions. Timmiluvs is right about timing with in-game timers (IGT). But in general, for games that use real-time (RTA), it is okay to time the run post capture.

Generally, no. Having a split timer onscreen should NOT be a prerequisite of a submission, unless there's a specific reason for it. If mods would reject a run purely for not having splits, they're not doing their jobs.

If you're using OBS or XSplit or (is there some other equivalent program?) there's really no excuse for not including an onscreen timer. If you're streaming directly from PlayStation 4 or Xbox One (lel, speedrunning on Xbox One), that's a little different.

Splits (AKA timers) aren't a requirement, they're just commonly used for the runner to keep track of how fast (or slow) they're going. It's merely a tool of convenience.
