Hi I've never properly done speed-running before but would like to start and try it on this game, however I'm not exactly sure what I need to/ should be doing. I see there's a post about a discord but I've never used it so should I go there for help? Just wondering about how to get started

Hi and welcome. Discord would be your best bet, but the forums work also.

This is what I would do:

1. Make sure you've played through the game and want to run it
2. Decide what category and platform you want to run
3. Look at the guides section, as I have starter notes for Komaru category. If you don't want to run NG Komaru, then start routing the game.
4. As you route the category, if you come across any questions or discoveries, post them here or in the appropriate section on the discord and I'll try and either respond to your questions or comment on what you've found.

Thanks, I made a discord and joined the server but not sure how to use it lol. I have 2 questions though, firstly do I have to use a preset split thing that others use or are the splits I use down to my discretion? (not the start and end time, just the splits) Also, say I have a question about something in the game, do I just post it in the another-episode group chat thing on discord?

Hey, welcome to the community! :) The splits can be whatever you want as long as you start and end at the right time. And yes, if you have any questions you can put it in the another episode channel on the discord and you should get answer eventually.
