Hello!

I have been wanting to start running since I first saw a AGDQ Doom run a while back, and because of a humble bundle pack, I think I found a game that I can start practicing getting into the mindset with. (Magnetic: Cage Closed)

But I'd really like to get started on doing some DOS runs, since It brings back memories playing Nox and Dungeon Keeper, which are still 2 of my most favorite games. So I have two questions for that.

  1. Is DOSBox an accepted method to run categories or do I have to use a way older version of windows?
  2. What would be a good starter speed run game for DOS?

Speedrunning is always a thing. You have to enjoy the game in order to have the motivation to run it over and over. I would always say learn a game that you love/loved. It is the best if you want to start with speedruns because even when its harder you have more motivation and fun running it. And for the DOSBox question.... I dont know if its allowed but i would guess so. Maybe someone with more information about that can respond and otherwise ask in the speedrun community for your game always for the rules and what is allowed/banned for your game what you want to speedrun. But anyway gl with finding the speedgame that fits to you and enjoy your runs.

Well, keep in mind if you would use a much older Windows you wouldn't be able to use the necessary software.

However, the Doom games for example are on Steam so you could always get one from there.
