It's not easy, because either your head isn't clear or you need to use the toilet every 10 minutes. I'd say stick to shorter runs if anything.

I just did practice instead of runs. I think I did fine practicing with my illness but I don't think I would have been able to do a decent full run.

It's actually worth fighting through it and practicing fullgame runs whilst not at 100%. If you ever have a marathon run, there's no guarantee you'll be healthy during your timeslot. In fact, you're MORE likely to be sick at a marathon since more people = greater chance of transmission.

How do you ¤handle sickness during a speedrun¤ ? Hm I'd rather say I won't do a speedrun if I knew all along my condition ain't going to be well both in my physical condition and my performance in the video game which makes no sense and will end up being a waste of time and energy, so I always ask myself if today's me will do fine or not before actually giving it a try at first hand, and if I figured out on halfway it's not as desirable as I thought at first then I quit the game soon (or at the least I'd limit myself to doing only some trials as the "practices" on how to build better routes / strategies before an actual run. :)

But about if you've got some kind of problems "while" doing a good speedrun, meh I'd say I'd put away with it as much as I can if the problem is possible to deal with (stomachache and the need to go to toilet per every interval, for instance) with your efforts, but once I found it unbearable then I'll restart the game.

I was wondering the question for the next ESA, because I'll have no choice, but taking a flight + train thursday night, to appear friday at the convention around 6:00 AM, and then running my game at 11:28 AM. So that probably means I won't be at my best condition to do the race. And it can be worse if I get sick during the travel.

So I just farm no reset runs, to get the idea that whatever happened before and during the race, I should be able to save any performance. But of course, that's a different situation than aiming PB/WR. I'm just training this way to not overcome my own estimate.

I tend to do better when I'm sick. My first WR I called out of work, slept most of the day, woke up really late PM and started a run. It was a trick run, but I beat the former 15 year old WR by 5000 points. Another occasion I was a bit sick and had been playing poorly in the days leading up to being sick. That day I managed a minor improvement on my first session of play. The best was when I was recovering from a back injury that made me unable to walk or sit too long without lots of pain. I got really tired of being able to do literally nothing but lay down for days. I fought the pain (what was left of it after the muscle relaxer) and forced myself to move around so I'd be able to game. I made great strides in my game despite the setback. It's like...I'm not letting anything stop me from enjoying this day. I'm not gonna lay around waiting to get better. I'm gonna find a better way to pass the time! and getting past that barrier of life telling me no tends to make me more relaxed and play better as a result. I never stay sick for long anyway, and getting up and MOVING seemed to help. Then there's days where you KNOW you CAN'T game, and you just don't for sake of being able to get the rest required to get back to it sooner.

since being sick rarely ever has an impact on how I play, if I want to go fast I will. If a run dies because of stomach issues or some shit oh well.
