I don't know where this idea of the basement clip being emu exclusive came from. It's been tested and confirmed on retail n64, but it's version exclusive, so not every N64 cart will do the clip. Just run the game however you want.

You can follow my video which helps to get rid of a lot of the common issues most PCs have running this game nowadays.

Thanks for the info. I assumed that was the case but I wasn't sure.

So I'm having an issue where I edit the theme for a game to set the favicon, I upload it and everything seems fine, however the favicon is not properly set, as the default favicon is still displayed. (Note, I have tried this over multiple days, with different computers, ensuring to take necessary measures to clear cache/etc).

The weird part is, when I go back into edit theme, the favicon shows the proper, updated icon, however visiting the game board never displays this icon.

Note I have also tried deleting the favicon, setting it to something else, etc, etc, but nothing seems to work.

So, I have just discovered that on all versions of the game, the cutscene for the lights puzzle in Tarmac Trouble will only play once after starting up the game (without completely exiting and restarting the game).

This basically means that if you do the tarmac trouble light puzzle, then load a completely blank file and do a run, you won't get the helicopter dropping cutscene in your run.

With this in mind, I think that we should start rejecting runs with this skip, since it's a glitch that must be set up before the run starts, and a "full" reset could be considered closing, and re-opening the game.

Due to this, we will start rejecting any new runs with this cutscene skip.

IMPORTANT:

IN ORDER TO AVOID THIS, AND AVOID RUNS FROM BEING REJECTED, BE SURE TO COMPLETELY RESTART THE GAME ONCE YOU'VE COMPLETED THE LIGHTS PUZZLE AT ALL. (For emulators, you can simply load a savestate after a clean start of the game)

I will work on finding the exact reason why this is occurring, and work a fix into my reset function on my trainer so that it will prevent the cutscene from being skipped. Until then, you must restart the game after doing the lights puzzle, and before doing runs.

Comments and thoughts encouraged below.

Fixed an issue where it would start off-screen.

Beautiful.

This is amazing. Thanks so much for all your work looking into this! I can't tell you how much I (and I'm sure a lot of other people) appreciate it!

hdc0: So while I have the game running on my desktop, since you're already looking into it, maybe you would want to see if we can get this thing running on my laptop, which it currently isn't.

In summary: I'm not running dgVoodoo at all, and running your DirectDrawTest.exe (just normally in a folder), as well as in my Toy Story 2 install folder (including renaming to toy2.exe), all result in the same, normal result:

DirectDrawCreate returned 0x00000000 for GUID NULL DirectDrawCreate returned 0x00000000 for GUID DDCREATE_EMULATIONONLY DirectDrawCreate returned 0x00000000 for GUID DDCREATE_HARDWAREONLY DirectDrawCreateEx returned 0x00000000 for GUID NULL DirectDrawCreateEx returned 0x00000000 for GUID DDCREATE_EMULATIONONLY DirectDrawCreateEx returned 0x00000000 for GUID DDCREATE_HARDWAREONLY

I ran your lua script in CE and got this:

ExamineDDEnumCallback: DirectDrawCreate returned 0x00000000 for device #0 ExamineDDEnumCallback: GetCaps returned 0x00000000 for device #0 Found 1 suitable DirectDraw devices

I went ahead and ran toy2.exe normally, adding the -log parameter and I got this:

http://pastebin.com/9zc62Gz6

Keep in mind this whole thing was done with the modified toy2.exe with the modified jmp command.

Still only getting the unable to enumerate a suitable device error.

Any thoughts?

Well I'm not sure about global hotkeys. I know for me personally, global hotkeys for livesplit assigned on my controller don't work while playing TS2, however global hotkeys for livesplit on my keyboard do work while playing.

I can confirm that this method does not change any offsets, and the autosplitter will still work as intended, meaning that it's likely an issue with your livesplit configuration.

First of all, make sure you run livesplit as an administrator when you start it.

Once you've done that, make sure your settings are correct. Basically just open your splits, click on edit splits and make sure that the autosplitter is activated in the first place, then click on the settings button next to the autosplit activate button, and ensure the script path is correct. It should look something like this: http://i.imgur.com/bLv2fXO.png

The Script Path should be your path to your livesplit folder \Components\LiveSplit.ToyStory2.asl

i.e. My Full path looks like this: C:\Users\Adam\Documents\Streamz\Livesplit\Components\LiveSplit.ToyStory2.asl

This is the most common issue. If you've downloaded splits from somewhere else, or ever moved around your livesplit directory, this value doesn't update properly, and you will have to do it manually.

The game doesn't run in windowed mode, and has no such built in function. That was a feature of dgVoodoo. You could try forcing it into a window using some external program like dxwnd, but those don't always work right. The running slow is a common issue which seems to be really inconsistent. The only thing I've seen that will fix that issue is to restrict the CPU usage on toy2.exe. Try starting the game while doing some cpu intensive task in the background and see if that helps.

That's awesome! Out of curiosity, what does changing that value at that offset actually do hdc0? I'd be curious to know.

  1. Not sure why there is a fullhouse.wav and a house.wav, as they are identical files (they both have the MD5 hash 50322BB8F70985841C59A86709BCC1CF). I can only presume that they accidentally put an extra copy in there for some random, unimportant reason.

2a. The voice clips in the PS version are actually still in the PC version, as the files are there, but for whatever reason, they aren't used in the game. I imagine this is likely due to something like copyright issues, which is also likely the same reason why the music for Andy's House is different for N64 vs all other versions. Keep in mind that this is just guess, and I believe that Tim Allen did do all of the recordings for buzz in the game, but I definitely can't say for sure. 2b. This is due to the same reason as part a). The files are all there, but for some reason they aren't used. While i'm guessing this is for copyright reasons, I will mention that this could for some reason be a random glitch during the porting process (although I find that outcome much less likely)

  1. Yeah, the music files do all have that "hiss". It's just a result of imperfect recordings/mastering. Remember that these were likely recorded in 1999, although it could have been as early as 1998. The audio technology was not nearly the same back then as it is today, and it's likely the audio recording/mastering (and possibly converting/compressing) process at that time introduced that "hiss" somewhere along the way. It's not uncommon for nearly all older (and even lots of newer) .wav files to have a very faint hissing noise.

Just checking back in for a quick update:

I just timed the cutscene skip times for:

Minimal Install (which skips cutscenes by default) Minimal install with the -mpeg launch parameter Full Install with the -mpeg launch parameter My Modified Installer (which skips cutscenes by default) My Modified Installer with the -mpeg launch parameter

On my computer, all of these resulted in the exact same times, therefor using the -mpeg launch parameter is allowed.

As a side note: It appears that having a cutscene unlocked for a specific level will cause that level to do the "cutscene skip" part (the time between pressing "A" on level select and the level loading screen appearing) about 1 second faster. Basically meaning if you've played the level before, regardless of the different options mentioned above, the level will load in about 1 second faster as the game seems to check if the cutscene has already been unlocked or not, regardless of launch parameters or whether or not playing cutscenes by default is active.

This basically just means don't use a hacked file that already has the cutscenes unlocked to do runs, you must use a new, clean save file (meaning that 0 Tokens, 0 Levels, 0 Unlockables, and 0 Cutscenes are unlocked).

Note: You can achieve the same effect of a new save file using my hotkey reset feature in my PC Trainer for quicker resets while doing runs, without having to do all the menuing of manually loading a fresh save file every reset.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Updated the trainer to add hotkeys for the teleport functions as well as a hotkey to automatically reset your file (without having to reload a save file from the menus) for faster resetting while doing runs. Links and screenshot in original post are updated to reflect the current version

You need quotation marks around the path if it has spaces. i.e. cd "C:\Program Files\Disney Interactive\Toy Story 2"

Also make sure you run cmd as an admin (if you weren't already).

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Oh, you found those. Nice! That makes it convenient. I assume this is for the US version?

Also, do you have any other addresses that you've already found? I have a gigantic list of stuff for N64, but I haven't bothered to re-find everything for the PC version yet.

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

So I decided that I didn't like practicing on PC version vs N64 since I didn't have things like savestates, and the extra cheats that I created for the N64 version, etc.

So, I decided to make a trainer to assist in practicing/testing for the PC version of Toy Story 2.

Note: This will only work with the US PC version of TS2.

Here's a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/uw7woYN.png

And you can download the tool from the resources tab for this game.

(Direct Links for convenience) https://www.speedrun.com/static/resource/znkwt.exe mirror: https://mega.nz/file/PhUVnaSL#yP7SQQreZyqT9RbK9ZYewMgTLEsXoo8WqvvQHdD8cu4

Note: Not sure how some antivirus programs will detect this. Since it is meant to write values in memory for other processes, it's possible that some antivirus programs may flag this as a malicious file, although I can assure you that it's clean.

Peter, open up a command prompt window (press the windows key, type "cmd" then press enter), then type:

cd "DIRECTORY OF THE DOWNLOADED BATCH FILE" (and hit enter, obviously replacing the text inside the parentheses with the path of the folder containing the downloaded batch file, i.e.: C:\Users\Adam\Downloads\DirectDrawTest)

Then type: DirectDrawTest.bat > DirectDrawTest.txt (and hit enter)

This will create a DirectDrawTest.txt file in the directory with the .bat file

United Statescheeseandcereal7 years ago

Ah, gotcha. That may be a lot of work for a meme category, but I'll look into it and see what that would really entail.

What do you mean by an item counter, exactly?
