There has been some discussion in the Luigi's Mansion discord about a potential change in categories. It was proposed to remove Chauncey Key and Bogmire Key from the leaderboards, and replace them with A Rank and All Boos categories. These categories would be interesting because they vary from the current 100% route, and allow for runners to play to their strengths, either with money routing or boo catching. The Boss Key categories are rarely ran, and don't contribute much to the leaderboards. Please post your thoughts here on whether you support this change or not.
I support this change, because although I personally haven't run 100% yet, many runners enjoy a change of pace and some of the other portrait ghosts are fun to catch. All Boos would let you do these without grabbing all the money. I think A-Rank makes sense as a category because you can technically get this with only 40 boos (and it may be optimal to do so) but this differs from the requirements of 100%.
I somewhat support this idea, the Chauncey Key part at least. Glitched% Bogmire Key, I like the idea because you're not following the official route, and you're going out of bounds. Whatever happens, I am OK with.
I do not think we should keep the Chauncey/Bogmire Key categories because I haven't seen anyone do a serious run of those in months, or grind them out. It makes sense to remove inactive categories but it doesn't really harm anything to keep them. I do not think many people would run All Boos, but it certainly does have more potential than Van Gore Key did when it was on the leaderboards, as All Boos would be a lot easier to accomplish.
I have done a few chauncey key runs, but that was just because I am still practicing the game and used it to get area 1 down pat.
I support this change because bogmire key is basically dead, and chauncey key is basically dead. We need some new, fun, and exciting categories to replace them, which i believe is all boos and A Rank (40 Boos).
So I see most people are definitely for removing Chauncey Key and Bogmire Key... Which I'm fine with. But the argument that they are dead categories isn't fully true. After taking a look at both of the categories' leaderboards both of them have submissions within the last two weeks. And as far as I'm concerned the categories replacing them will be just as underused as these two categories within a month or so. Ya'll are free to do as you please. But if getting rid of underused categories is the goal here, then why is Normal Mansion still a thing? I'd say toss all of the Misc categories before adding these.
120 FPS is Fun AF. Is there anything stopping us just having like 12 misc categories? That almost seems better than choosing one meme over the other
I agree with the idea of replacing categories, but not really the categories being added and removed. All Boos just came up in a discussion earlier today from what I've seen, nobody even considered doing it at all before, why not instead add something like All Portrait Ghosts, which has been around for a while, and actually has runners (in fact, when this discussion came up, I checked the Luigi's Mansion directory and the only streamer I saw there was doing an All Portrait Ghosts run).
As for which categories to replace, it really depends on the reason to remove them. If we're removing categories because they're arbitrary, the keys should definitely go, if we're removing categories because they're inactive, then max% is far and away the best candidate for the chopping block.
Also, just as an aside based on an earlier comment, don't make an A Rank with a 40 boo requirement, because that would obviously be a bad idea. It would make about as much sense as requiring the use of Out of Bounds in Any%.
Chauncey Key is kinda dead however i do like the idea of a glitched Bogmire Key. A Rank/All Boos allow more creative ways of running "100%" type categories. Furthermore, if you mess up a 100% run and miss some money, if it's still a PB you can put it on the All Boos leaderboard, meaning the run was not totally in vain. All in all I support the change.
I think this will be a positive change, it will give players who don't enjoy going out for the money to still go through all of the rooms, and collect all of the Boos without the stress of having to keep track of money. And for people who love to collect the money, but hate stressing out if a Boo goes the wrong way in attic for example. Still pretty new to the community, but I would really enjoy this over 100% considering I always mess up the money route, most of the time forgetting about the plant and having to go back for it. I am all for this!
What would be the specific requirements for A rank, just so we're clear. Is this replacing 100% or being added in addition to?
Well, the way i did it was i had 40 boos and got A rank, Basically skipping the gold diamond for timesave. This is being added as another category, not replacing 100%
As long as the current 100% doesn't get rekt for some reason, I'm cool with adding the two new categories. Up to you all what you want to do with the keys. I don't like them, but they don't hurt me lol
