ValhallaAhh yeah that makes sense. It was the first thing I noticed when I played OoT on VC lmao. I guess there's a good example. Some will deem it cheating, others might not. Some communities will even allow turbo buttons even if turbo isn't standard to the system/base controllers.
There isn't really a way to be 100% sure someone isn't cheating. Splicing, audio, visuals, hardware mods, scripting, etc. These things, depending on game, can be done with no way for the viewer to know if it's cheated or not. Most leaderboards operate on video proof and trust. If that video proof can't be determined to have been cheated, then it has to be taken as legitimate. The only way you can discredit legitimate looking proof is if the runner outs themselves as a cheater.
Having said that it still depends on the game/board. Some games even allow external hardware/software. I know years ago there was debate over using some adapter to make ESS easier in OoT. Something to do with joystick deadzones. Not sure what the outcome was, but the point is that hardware modification might not even be seen as cheating depending on the community.
What does speed have to do with that? On the topic that's usually just a byproduct of speedrunning.
Added both difficulty and character variables. Updated the rules for Any% and Any% NLM to exclude Drizzt as an option for a playable character, as he's intended for NG+ type shenanigans.
Could also add a character variable. At least that seems more relevant for NLM categories.
I've added a difficulty variable for those that choose to play on something other than Easy. This won't affect leaderboard placement, instead it's similar to the console variable.
Extreme categories are still likely to get their own leaderboard in the future, but we'd still need some decent proof-of-concept runs to consider it.
Things weren't perfect before, but sure as hell better than now.

I don't recall really. They were larger 27", or higher, CRTs. The systems we used were RGB modded. They looked nice, but I felt a touch of input delay or latency that I didn't get from just a regular composite setup.
The CRTs were probably fairly run of the mill early to mid 2000s TVs that had s-video and component inputs, if I had to guess. If no one else can provide more info I could try reaching out to a friend who was a tech volunteer a few years back.
NG+ category added. Will add NG+ NLM when I or someone else puts together a run to submit.
Ads were likely always going to be an inevitability, but I think if they simply replaced the donation model with a cheap monthly subscription service for forum flair they could have been fine. My biggest concern is walling off any content behind a fee. While a single forum being walled off isn't anything significant, it could lay the groundwork for the future of the site. Not saying elo will wall off submissions, but it's something to consider.
1.) Load the site up with ads rendering the site a nuisance for most and unusable for some. 2.) Wait 3.) Make people pay to fix a problem you added in the first place.
Reminder that adblock/ublock is free. Can't wait for exclusive forum and leaderboard discussion to become the norm.
My idea for NG+ NLM was that it would essentially be an extreme only mode, since extreme is the only mode that forces you to import before starting the timer/game.
I've been considering a NG+ run myself and I think the best course of action is NG+ and NG+ NLM. The former essentially being NG+ for easy through hard, and the latter being NG+ for extreme (as you can't abuse imports anyways, and start the game with loading in a previous character, unlike NG+ easy-hard).
Nothing set in stone though. Currently my focus will just be on a regular NG+, maybe an extreme run as well.
You don't NEED a website to track runs and leaderboards. There's always an alternative, just not one as convenient (that I know of) as SRC.
