@BREWSER & @CorundumCore I have just fixed an issue where the timer would still start on opening the game, as well as an issue with starting the timer after resetting it mid-run. The "automatic reset" option now also resets the timer on game close. Finally, I've added some debug logs you can see with an application like DebugView++ or DbgView. (I prefer the former as you can filter by process name "LiveSplit"). If this keeps happening I'll ask for some logs.

Please let me know if this fixed your specific issues. Also make sure you don't accidentally open two instances of the game, as this can also mess up the autosplitter and there's not much I can do about it. Example: (there should be only 1 window if you alt-tab, two processes in Task Manager) https://i2.paste.pics/6b2f1023e9e54e5f988f8c718827bea7.png

Hey @BREWSER , Thanks for the report. As for not starting after closing then reopening the game, as @CorundumCore mentioned, it's because the game copies a different .exe into a temporary folder and LiveSplit gets confused.

My hypothesis is that LiveSplit catches the "launcher" executable first. I've used a workaround to wait until I find the executable in your system's temporary path. It's been working great for me, but maybe it's not enough.

I have not been able to reproduce the timer starting by itself at when it shouldn't.

Mind telling me what operating system you're using? And are you using the AutoSplitter through the splits ("Activate" button) or through a layout component (manually downloading the .asl file). If doing the latter, try to remove that component and activate it using the button above your splits.

There's still two categories I want to grind, if I encounter any issue myself I'll try to fix them.

@CorundumCore if you have it uploaded, you can post it in this thread in the mean time. All Bunnies could be interesting, we have all artefacts, why not. No all eyes though, please XD Keep that in 100% :P

As a word of advice, if you prefer being able to compete for WR in general, very few PS1 games will be viable for you as they're almost all ran on PS2 w/ FDS. And often (not always, it depends on the game), a model 90k will be optimal.

You can however use the hot swap trick to play any PS1 game (burned, different region, etc.) on a PS2 slim. Easier done on a 90k since 70-75k have an additional lid sensor inside. (or you can use a swap magic disc). Burned discs will still read slightly slower than factory pressed ones, but have given me a better experience than emulator. And it's not flash/usb loading.

The PC version is actually a different game called "M&M's: The Lost Formulas". https://www.speedrun.com/mms_the_lost_formulas

If you meant using an emulator, your mileage may vary on the emulator used, but any Xinput controller should work out of the box on windows, and any DirectInput controller should work given the right drivers. The DS4 is a popular controller on PC, so you should be fine in that regard.

Will an emulator run slower? Yes, it will run slower than a PS2 with Fast Disc Speed. This game has a lot of lag and so even the PS2 model makes a difference. I don't think PS2 emulators are mature enough to be on par with consoles. It'll either run slower, or faster (in which case it shouldn't be allowed, anyone can make their own version of an emulator that runs faster than console).

You can find them in the save file %LOCALAPPDATA%\WitchWay\save.sav. I will eventually provide screenshots to identify their location.

Here are their names and the room name they're found in, in order:

I noticed Windowed mode is less fluid as well. Keep in mind this game is badly optimized, if at all. (ie, lots of wasted memory, but it's a small game so they can get away with it)

Quick question, why not add it to the official LiveSplit Autosplitters so it's automatically available when someone sets the game in their splits to "Trespasser"? https://github.com/LiveSplit/LiveSplit.AutoSplitters#adding-an-auto-splitter Or at least share it as a download in Resources.

Furthers notes on this as I have gained knowledge. Consoles that can access the PSN (PSP/PS3/PSTV) can play some PS1 games, if they're available through the PSN Store. In those cases PSTV is always the fastest due to digital load times. PSN support is also getting dropped for older consoles, apparently. Luckily for me, none of the PS1 games I run as of now are available through the PSN, so I won't have to deal with that can of worms.

As for the PS3, only the very first generation (japan exclusive), has physical hardware to play older games. 2nd generation uses partial emulation (slower), and backward compatibility was eventually dropped. Anything Gen3 and above is pure unofficial PlayStation emulation. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3_models#Model_comparison

@chewchew @Daravae I have made just that! I too was annoyed by the lack of zoom https://www.speedrun.com/the_site/thread/ia1ph/ @Drakodan Not sure if that wasn't the case back then. But if you click on a point it does open the run in a new tab now.

As the title says, I have made a very, very simple and minimal browser extension that allows you to filter out date ranges you don't want to see. Especially useful for older games, or when you want to zoom in onto a cluster of World Records. Hopefully something like this would be part of the site eventually.

Chrome Web Store (Chrome, Brave, Opera and Edge): https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/src-wr-chart-zoom/fpjodakfmgcnnepkogoobonfdihmhimc Add-ons for Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/src-wr-chart-zoom/ Microsoft Edge Add-ons: <In Review, will update the link once it's published> Opera addons: <In Review, only available for the Opera beta and dev versions, will update the link if it's ever published>

See how normally the data points on the right are all squished together? https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/previews/thumbs/248/248469.png Now you can see them in full! https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/previews/thumbs/248/248470.png

I remember ROMaster tallying up something like that. I've also made some sort of scoreboard that gives a certain amount of points for being above a leaderboard's average (and a ton of other factor): https://www.avasam.dev/global-scoreboard . You could use it as some sort of inaccurate metric if you just wanna friendly compete with friends. In which case, go have fun. But should not be taken too seriously.

I think all the main issues with that have already been mentioned. Basically that you can't in any form use that to say that someone is better than someone else. (hence why I heavily framed my thing as being a scoreboard). Whatever you do will always end up extremely arbitrary, and that's just to be accepted. I really don't think anything like this should be done officially.

"USB loaded" (whether it's from an actual USB flash drive, an external HDD/SSD, or SD card). Tend to load much faster then when read from disc. As it requires a modded console and was not meant to be a supported/official way to play games, it would give an unfair advantage (ie: you'd need the best mods with the fastest media to have a competitive time).

Backup discs on the other hand, tend to read slower, hence why it is accepted on most leaderboard that are not too "purist" about their games. It sometimes still requires a softmodded console, but at least you're not playing at an advantage, but rather the other way around! In the same vein, flash carts will depend on their fidelity.

Same deal with emulators: Instructions and load accuracy, how competitive and accessible a game is, and the reputation of a specific emulator version will play a big role in whether it's allowed or not.

In any case, it's always up to a game's community to decide what is allowed or not. Hopefully these should give you a good idea behind the general reasoning why something is or isn't allowed.

If you look at my any% run, there's one death abuse at a fork in the road to go back faster. Other than that you don't need to watch the last cutscene of any level. That's all the speed tech there is to it for now.

Usually PS2 with Fast Disc Speed activated is faster than PS3. You are free to try however, as I do not currently own a PS3.

QuébecAvasam3 years ago

To skip the tutorials, you have to play on medium or hard. I have made a tutorial for the entire run if you're interested: https://www.speedrun.com/the_lion_king_simbas_mighty_adventure/guide/ucvwk (I have to fix a few gifs, but the guide is pretty complete).

Concerning consoles: I'll add PS3, but I don't think PSP natively supports playing PS1 games without iso modification or emulator. If I'm wrong, please show me how, both for my own personal knowledge, and so I add it in the list of consoles.
