When ever the menu was open while the cutscene was playing, I did a trick where I paused and clicked space and backspace before entering the level. This did three things at the same time: it started the level, warped to the next level I had selected, and reopened the menu. After that, I selected the next level to get ready for the next time I did that trick. This is why I entered skateboarding so quickly, because I was already at skateboarding using this trick.
